To ticket or not to ticket... Citizens are fined! Some council persons are happy about it! The City of Troy's traffic division is a success according to council persons LaPosta and Mantello. At a recent council meeting they said the traffic division has increased revenues by six times what they were in the last administration. Wait one minute! The purpose of government is to protect us from being harmed (safety & health) by other citizens so that we may pursue our happiness. If you take my money you are not helping me pursue happiness. That's correct, you say but some people break the law and they need to pay for it. I agree, but have our citizens broken the law six times as much this year as opposed to last year or has our police department not been ticketing citizens as much in the past? And Why? Is the extra ticketing a Give Back from the police department? Does this help our image as a city? Will this encourage folks to live and work in Troy? Perhaps a better criteria for judging the traffic division etc., is more voluntary compliance to laws. Such compliance is generally arrived at through education. Increased voluntary compliance should show declining revenues. The less money our government takes from it's citizens, the fewer laws that we have, the better our government is.
