Neighborhoods USA - Annual Conference Neighborhoods USA is holding it's 22nd Annual Conference at the Omni Hotel in Albany, May 21-24, 1997. The conference program consists of thirty seven workshops organized under six broad topics...
Workshops on encouraging home ownership, neighborhood advocacy, neighborhood improvement, gaining neighborhood participation, organizing residents, developing newsletter, "safe streets" campaigns, town-gown relations, and historic preservation are among the subjects to be covered. Tours of twenty Albany neighborhoods, billed as "Neighborhood Pride Tours", are available to conference attendees. The conference will offer Troy residents, business people, government officials and others an opportunity to join with attendees from other parts of the country who are interested in improving the quality of life in neighborhoods and nurturing a sense of community. The theme of the workshops appears to be centered around the three issues people advocate for most: safe, clean and prosperous communities. One-day registration rates are available for those who cannot attend the full conference. Registration forms for the conference are available from the Albany Convention and Visitor's Bureau, 52 South Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207 or by calling 1-800-258-3582, ext. 203. Call immediately if interested. Neighborhoods USA was organized in 1976 by two neighborhood advocates, Judy Lafon of Kansas City, MO. And Howard Hallman of Washington, DC. As a grassroots effort to build and strengthen neighborhood organizations and develop partnerships between neighborhoods and local governments by resolving problems and discussing issues of importance to neighborhoods. Membership has grown into a nationwide network of almost 1,000 citizens, neighborhood associations, local governmental staff and elected officials. Additional information on Neighborhoods USA is available from Karen Harbor, Admin. Assist. (513) 443-3644. In cooperation with Troy United Ink Corp., a not-for-profit corporation |
