Troy officials publicly asked that Troy residents increase participation in its recycling program.

How to Recycle:

Newspapers: Place newspapers on top of your blue bin or stand newspaper up on the side of your container and prop up with other recyclable or place newspapers loosely in a paper bag. Uncontaminated inserts are okay.

You can include-Junk mail, magazines newspapers envelopes (remove plastic windows).

You cannot include-computer paper or telephone books (call 270-4559 for books).

Cardboard: Uncontaminated corrugated (wavy interior) only. Tie in bundles with string or rope, maximum size 3ft x 3ft x 2 ft. Place in recycling box loosely.

You can include-Corrugated cardboard

You cannot include-Cereal boxes, colored boxes, pizza boxes, wax-coated boxes.

Plastics, metal, glass: Rinse all containers. Don't break glass. Remove all caps and lids and discard with regular garbage. Plastics and metals may be crushed to save space. Place loosely in recycling container.

You can include-Plastics 1,2,3,5. Metals, food & beverage containers made of tin or aluminum. Glass bottles made of green, brown amber or clear glass.

You cannot include-Plastics 4,6,7 any containers holding any liquid, auto glass, ceramics, mirrors, paint cans, aerosol cans, Pyrex, window glass.

Collection containers must be placed out for collection no later than 7am on your scheduled collection day. If your bin is not collected on your scheduled day leave your container out for collection and call 270-4559 as soon as possible. Do not wait to call for missed collections.

If your neighbors are not recycling call Bill Chamberlain at 270-4559 with that address. We are spending additional tax dollars on tipping fees if we do not recycle. Property owners; this is your chance to help keep city costs down. Enforce recycling in your home and your tenant's home. The more we recycle, the more we save and earn. Let's all strive for full participation in our recycling program. You're paying for it anyway!
