Community Gardens Hosts First Annual Harvest & Craft Festival by Kory Michael Aversa Capital District Community Gardens will host its first annual Harvest & Craft Festival on Sunday, September 28, 1997 from 10:00 a.m-4:00 p.m. The festival will take place outdoors, on the block of Eighth Street, south of Hoosick Street (Route 7). Craftspeople and food vendors will be selling handmade crafts, farm-fresh produce, baked goods and other food items. The Fall Harvest & Craft Festival is a unique opportunity for our community gardeners to showcase their work to the regional community, while also raising funds for our ongoing education efforts and community gardens program. The festival will support Capital District Community Gardens' efforts to help people help themselves and their communities by creating beautiful, wholesome gardens in former neighborhood eyesores throughout the Capital Region. Festivities will feature a number of children's activities including live animals, face painting, pumpkin patch photos and balloons. Other activities include a bake sale, a dunking booth for members of the Troy City Council, fire truck "bucket" rides and, the Troy Police Department will offer families an opportunity to have their children fingerprinted. Admission to the festival is free. The event will be held rain or shine. Any craftsperson, farmer or food vendor interested in obtaining a booth may contact Community Gardens' office for an application and booth rental rates. (518) 274-8685. In cooperation with Troy United Ink Corp., a not-for-profit corporation |
