Prospect Park Update

by Hannelore Wilfert, President

Friends of Prospect Park

The summer is coming swiftly to a close, but planned activities continue in Prospect Park. Saturday, September 20 at 9:00am the Troy Tennis Association is sponsoring an open Centennial Doubles Tournament for men and women. That means the combined ages in each doubles team must add up to one hundred in agełnot so difficult for some of us! Call Tom Rogan for registration at 270-7193 or call Hannelore at 273-4984. The fee is $10 per team and one can of new tennis balls. We encourage all to participate and know that it will be a fun time for participants as well as spectators. Rain date is Saturday, September 27.

NOTE: A change in the schedule for the historic walk in Prospect Park in September: It is rescheduled for Saturday, October 4 at 10:00 a.m. Please meet at the comfort station. Ms. Rosemary Oathout of the Friends of Prospect Park is the organizer and Ms. Sylvie Brown is the scheduled lecturer and guide who will provide illustrations about Prospect Park in its earlier days. The fee for the two-hour tour is $5 per person over 12 years of age. The tour is our first, modest fund-raiser for the Friends of Prospect Park. We hope that many people from Troy and its surrounding communities will come and support our efforts.

Our Annual Fall Clean-up is Saturday, October 25 at 9:00am. Please come and assist us for another successful clean-up and join us in our efforts to maintain the park. If individuals or groups cannot make that date, we ask that you come and rake another time that is convenient for you. Leaves can be bagged or just raked alongside the road for pick-up from the city workforce.

Please contact Peter Grimm of Friends of Prospect Park at 273-1500 for more information and scheduling.
