YouthBuild Comes to Troy The Commission on Economic Opportunity for the Rensselaer County Area, Inc. (CEO) is pleased to announce an exciting new collaboration that offers young people in Troys Enterprise Community an innovative construction, education, and leadership development training program. YouthBuild participants rebuild affordable, housing within Troys Enterprise Community while working to build their own lives. Admission to YouthBuild is competitive & priority is given to applicants residing within the Enterprise Community. Eligible applicants will be invited to a two week orientation in August that is specifically designed to identify those young people with a commitment to self and community transformation. Selected participants (38-40) will begin the ten month cycle in September. YouthBuild participants alternate one week in school and one week at the construction site. Leadership Development activities occur throughout the day and through a formal curriculum. YouthBuild participants are paid $5.15/hour for work and vocational training. Bonuses for excellent attendance will be awarded. An elected Youth Policy Committee (90% participants) will meet weekly to decide issues ranging from participant termination to choosing community service projects. Participants benefit from additional services such as - family development, professional counseling, job/college preparation, drivers education, social, cultural and recreational events, subsidized child care, entrepreneurial training and neighborhood planning, and graduate resources.
