Unity House 1997 Fact Sheet - Year in Review
- People Living in Poverty
- 18,320 people used one or more services
- Street Ministry provides crisis intervention, advocacy, counseling, emergency food, clothing and housewares, housing assistance, summer camp for inner-city children, holiday food baskets and gifts, multi-service neighborhood center (Bridge Coalition).
- Victims of Domestic Violence
- 2,264 served, with 170 adults and 145 children receiving emergency shelter or housing support
- Families in Crisis provides crisis intervention, 24 hour hotline, safe shelter, housing support services, counseling, legal & social service advocacy, children's services, parenting & life skills education, information & referral, aftercare support groups and community education.
- Children with Developmental Delays
- 330 served, with 255 receiving on-going therapy
- Unity Sunshine provides early intervention and pre-school developmental evaluations. Developmental services in speech/language, physical and occupational therapy, psychological consultation and general skills are delivered to children ages birth to five in three settings: a traditional preschool and toddler group center based program (which includes integrated classes), other preschool/daycare programs, and homes. Family support and advocacy are integral program components.
- Adults with Mental Illness
- 891 served, with 217 receiving rehabilitative housing
- Fifth Avenue Social Club provides prevocational training, employment assistance & opportunities, skills development, activities for socialization and recreation, and individual and group support. Transportation provides mobility training and transportation from clients' homes to day programs, medical appointments, and community events.
- Community Residences and Supported Housing provide daily living skills training, medication supervision, staff support and advocacy, linkage to community resources, 24 hour crisis assistance and provision of or linkage with daytime activities/jobs. Case Management serves young adults and people who are dealing with both mental illness and chemical abuse (WCA) in a similar capacity.
- People Living with HIV/AIDS
- 100 served with 34 receiving housing support
- AIDS Outreach Project provides community and school based HIV/AIDS education, transportation, assistance in accessing FHV testing and a drop-in center for at-risk youth.
- AIDS Housing Support provides help in securing, establishing and maintaining a household, home visits, case management, and advocacy.
