City Donates Bikes for Tourists At Troy RiverSpark Visitor Center Thanks to Mayor Mark P. Pattison, visitors to Troy have a new option for exploring the city. Bicycles for touring around town will be available at Troy's RiverSpark Visitor Center beginning Wednesday, August 5. "The Visitor Center is an important `gateway' to our historic city. From there we provide historic and cultural guided and self-guided tours and information about retail and shopping opportunities. Troy is fast becoming a very pedestrian friendly city. We urge visitors to take advantage of the bicycles and see our city in a new light," said Mayor Pattison. The bikes will be loaned at no charge, except for a $20 refundable deposit. A driver's license or non-driver ID must be shown at the time of rental. Helmets, bells, and locks have been donated by Armand Arekian from The Bike Store at 387 Congress Street. Locks have also been donated by Trustees of the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway. The bicycles, which are painted bright orange, were surplus property of the city police department. "It puts them to good use," says Sloane Bullough, manager of the Visitor Center. "We are excited about the opportunity to show that Troy is a friendly place where people can spend a great afternoon seeing the sights." Troy's RiverSpark Visitor Center is operated for the City of Troy by the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway. The Visitor Center serves over 12,000 visitors and residents each year.
