Uncle Sam's of Troy Opens its 2nd Season

For schedule and more information call Uncle Sam's Hockey Club - 235-8920

The Uncle Sam's of Troy hockey team is the only USA Hockey certified Junior "B" Hockey Team in the eastern part of New York State and is a chartered member of the Empire Junior Hockey League (EmJHL) which includes teams from Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown, and Elmira. In their inaugural season last year, the team compiled a 25-30-3 overall record and finished in third place in the EmJHL. Head Coach Ken Nitz feels the 1998-99 season will be even more successful.

The Uncle Sam's of Troy season starts in September and continues through March playing a total of 70 games, of which 30 will be against Empire Junior Hockey League foes. The Empire Junior Hockey League playoffs take place in mid-March with the League Champions competing in the USA National Junior "B" Championships in Minnesota in late March. This league showcases the best junior hockey players and future college stars in the northeast. In addition to the league schedule, the Uncle Sam's of Troy will also be playing games against junior teams from Boston, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. The Uncle Sam's of Troy consists of the best under-20 year old players from Upstate New York. They will be competing in several showcase tournaments in order to give them the exposure, to college scouts, which is necessary in order for them to play college hockey in the future.

The highlight of the 1998-99 season will be the Uncle Sam's of Troy Junior Showcase Tournament, February 26th to 28th, held in Troy. Seven of the top junior teams on the East Coast, along with the Uncle Sam's of Troy will be battling for three days (four games each day) at the Knick Park Arena in Lansingburgh during the day and attending exciting NCAA hockey games at RPI during the evening.

The Uncle Sam's of Troy junior hockey games will be heavily scouted by NCAA Colleges, Junior A and Professional teams and we anticipate a significant fan-base to help support this exciting local team. The price of tickets for Uncle Sam's of Troy games is significantly lower than and more family affordable than the cost of other local college and pro hockey games in the area. Through your participation and support of the Uncle Sam's of Troy, the players, who have committed themselves and are dedicated to the sport of ice hockey, can achieve their goal of playing college hockey someday. We wish all supporters and players the best in the upcoming season, and hope that this season will produce many memories of games well played.
