Parking in Downtown Troy

Dear TUI:

I am a visiting nurse employed by Seton Health. My territory includes but is not limited to downtown Troy. Approximately three times a week I travel into the city. On these occasions, I not only have to worry for my safety but now over receiving parking tickets!

Today, September 28, 1998, I made a visit to Monument Square Apartments. Along with my person, I must carry my nursing bag, an oxymeter, scale (sometimes groceries) etc. Parking is always a problem but now is impossible. The Freer Bldg., as you know, is under major reconstruction. I can't possibly carry what I have to from blocks away (if I'm lucky enough to find one then). My visit lasts from 30-40 minutes. I don't venture into downtown only to take care of people living in and are Troy constituents.

The purpose of this letter is to resolve this ticket and to foster a better understanding of what life is all about for people like me just trying to do their job. Trucks double park, buses just about wipe you out. Where are the meter maids/police during these times?

I'm not asking for privileged parking but only to work on a solution amicable to all, i.e., visiting nurses of Seton Health and city hall. You may reach me at my office at 233-1803 x206 to hopefully resolve this pitiful situation.

Respectfully,

Angela McKinley,RN
Homecare Case Manager
Seton Health

Editor's Note: This letter was forwarded to Mayor Pattison. Assemblyman Pat Casale has secured funds for a downtown parking study. The current administration has hired a firm to proceed with a study.
