Visit the Own a Home in Historic Troy website at www.sage.edu/homes/ The Sage Colleges and Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (TRIP) are pleased to share their plans for a new home ownership program in downtown Troy, with the support of grants from the Howard & Bush Foundation and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (NRC). Own a Home in Historic Troy is a homeownership assistance program for those interested in buying a home in downtown Troy. All residential and mixed residential-commercial properties in the downtown Troy historic area bounded by and including First and Third streets, north to Broadway including Monument Square and south to Adams Street including Washington Park are eligible for this program. Two unique benefit packages are available-for employees and alumni of The Sage Colleges, and non-Sage affiliated individuals. Benefits available to each group include free legal services associated with closing costs, home buyer education workshops, free building maintenance workshops, and financial assistance for home purchase or renovation. Non-Sage recipients are also eligible for college tuition abatement for dependent family members who otherwise qualify for admission to Sage, covering up to 50% of undergraduate tuition costs at The Sage Colleges. "This program will have far-reaching benefits for both the Sage community and the city of Troy. Downtown Troy is a viable place to live as well as work, rich in history, culture and educational opportunities," said Sage Colleges president Jeanne H. Neff. "With upcoming revitalization plans for the campus - including restored historic buildings, a central plaza, and bookstore/ retail center --The Sage Colleges are making substantial investments in revitalizing Troy's historic downtown area," she continued. "Sage is one more example of a higher education institution choosing to make the historic commitment to renew its urban community for the 21st century."
