Utility Reduction Program Grant

from Rens. Co. Chamber of Commerce

The Troy Savings Bank has announced that the Federal Home Loan bank of New York will award a $403,750 housing grant to the Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (TRIP), for its Utility Cost Reduction Initiative.

TRIP Executive Director Patrick Madden said the project will involve the conversion of heating systems from electric to gas in 120 units of housing. "Conversion in these units is critical to maintain the long-term availability of these affordable housing units," said Mr. Madden. "Even with conservation methods, the cost of electric heat makes the vacancy rate in these units very high."

TRIP will also provide weatherization workshops and products to help residents manage energy costs. The balance of the project's costs - $258,000 - will be awarded through the Rensselaer County's Community Development Block Program.
