Capital District Individual Development Account (IDA) Program

The Affordable Housing Partnership, Better Neighborhoods, Inc, (BNI), Capital District Community Loan Fund, Rensselaer County Community Housing Resource Board; Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (TRIP) have joined together to develop a Capital District Individual Development Account (CDIDA) Program to be offered in Albany, Rensselaer and Schenectady counties.

Individual Development Account (IDA) programs have been established around the country to assist working individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency and leave poverty. The purpose of the IDA program is to support the savings habits of working people while providing financial management training enabling them to realize specific financial goals.

As an incentive to save, each participant's savings are matched at a rate of up to $3 for every $1 saved. Households earning at or under 80% of median income are eligible. Participants will establish a savings account dedicated to achieving a specific financial goal such as home ownership or small business start-up or expansion, a Capital District Individual Development Account Program will offer basic money management sessions in addition to goal specific sessions.

The Capital District IDA Program has a goal of assisting 100 families to reach their financial goals over the next two years.
