School District Plans 150th Anniversary Celebration In September 1999 the Enlarged City School District of Troy will begin to celebrate its 150th Anniversary and the Troy Educational PRIDE Foundation is planning a weekend of special events to highlight this milestone. The celebration will begin at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Friday, October 15, with a program featuring notable graduates and today's talented youth. "We are planning to organize this event as a massive alumni reunion gathering." said Ray Osterhout, vice chairman of the PRIDE foundation. This will be an opportunity to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our alumni and to feature some of the wonderful students from our music and arts programs." Among the alumni to be recognized will be the world renowned jazz musician Nick Brignola, who will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The weekend activities will conclude on October 16 with a dinner gala which will continue the focus on alumni achievement. "Our city schools and community have a strong heritage and this is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate their history," said Osterhout. "Please mark these important dates - October 15 and 16 - on your calendars. This is an event that should be shared with everyone." PRIDE is an acronym for People Really Involved in Delivering Excellence. The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance and resources for students to pursue learning opportunities beyond those provided for by the school district. The Foundation exists for the sole interest of students and operates completely independently of the Enlarged City School District of Troy. All students are eligible to apply. It is the intention of the Foundation to provide funding for most requests and to help defray some portion of the costs associated with these educational opportunities.
