Community Gardens Fund Raising

274-8685
295 8th Street, Troy, NY 12180

Year-end is a natural time to turn our thoughts to giving, and to reaffirming our personal commitments to the causes we believe in. With a solid track record behind us, and an exciting future ahead, I hope you will agree that Capital District Community Gardens is a sound investment for your charitable dollars.

As you well know, Capital District Community Gardens is a modest organization, but we have large goals. We are working to add two new gardens in each of the next five years. In doing that we also hope to move into new communities, to expand the reach of our efforts. Our 34 existing gardens are literally busting at the seams and we are unable to meet the increasing demand for gardening space.

With each new garden that is built, between ten and fifty Capital Region families are able to grow their own nutritious food. No hand outs, just an opportunity for self-help. But building these gardens cost money.

Each new site requires an organizational investment of between $ 10,000 and $25,000, These one-time start-up costs (for fencing, soil, lumber, landscaping, etc.) will then benefit generations to come. If you could spend a dollar today to ensure that people would be well fed, self-sufficient and able to enjoy their natural surroundings for years to come, wouldn't you make that investment?

I'm turning to you today, asking for your help in supporting the work of Capital District Community Gardens with a generous end-of-year donation. We are currently working on two new community garden sites (in Albany and Troy') for 2000 and are already scouting other sites (in Cohoes, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and other areas) for the new millennium.

Feeding families; teaching skills; building community; beautifying our cities; and protecting critical green spaces in urban areas. These are just a few of the ways in which your support of Capital District Community Gardens is helping local families and their neighborhoods.
